Bomoh tricks 3 into giving cash, jewellery

GELANG PATAH: A woman, who was convinced by a bomoh that she was under a spell, lost more than RM20,000 in cash and jewellery after she handed over the items to him last month for safekeeping.
Two of the woman's relatives also lost RM50,000 and RM27,000 respectively after they, too, handed over their cash and jewellery to the bomoh, in his 20s, for safekeeping.
Esah Yaakub, 59, said she went to the bomoh's house in Kampung Paya Mengkuan, near here, accompanied by her husband, to collect medication for a relative.

The bomoh was alleged to have convinced her that it would be safer for her to hand over her savings and jewellery to him for safekeeping lest she be conned by someone who had put a spell on her.
"I was very worried when I heard that I would lose my valuables to a spellcaster and without further thought, I handed over my valuables and savings to the bomoh.
"After that, I continued to seek treatment from the bomoh so that he could remove the spell."

When she and her son went to the bomoh's house to retrieve her cash and valuables, he refused to return them.
The bomoh eventually handed Esah a bag which he claimed contained the money and valuables, but told her to open it only after reaching home.
"When I got home, I opened the bag and found it contained uncooked rice."

Esah and her son then went to the bomoh's house again and confronted him.
They took him to the police station and lodged a report.
Nusajaya district police chief Superintendent Aziz Ahmad confirmed the case and said investigations were ongoing.
He said the bomoh had been detained to facilitate investigations.
Aziz appealed to the public who have information on the case to contact the Nusajaya police station, or the nearest police station.
